Energy Systems Catapult is home to key parts of the former Active Building Centre (ABC)
The Active Building Centre (ABC) was set up in 2019
History
ABC was an independent research organisation created under the government’s Transforming Construction Challenge to help the built environment sector accelerate its journey to Net Zero. In its four years of operation, ABC helped to deliver over 100 real world schemes with a value of around £300m. Ranging from capital projects with the Welsh Government to commercial buildings and housing developments with local authorities.
Acquired by Energy Systems Catapult
In summer 2023, Energy Systems Catapult completed its acquisition of key parts of ABC, aiming to continue Net Zero progress through the development of lower-carbon buildings that actively manage, store and share energy.
The integration has allowed Energy Systems Catapult to evolve the ABC Blueprint – a guide to achieving Net Zero development for new buildings, and continue the validation of the blueprinted approach at Parc Gelli Werdd – Sustainable Business Space project in Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire.
